  • School closures during the GCSE season 2024

    Published 23/04/24

    Dear Parent/Carer,

As you will already be aware from the last review meeting, there are occasions during the GCSE season when we need to close the school for year 9/10 students at the Dukes Centre.

When an exam involves all year 11s, every room in the school is required, and every member of staff is needed to invigilate. I am writing to give you advance notice of the dates of these closures.

On these days, students will be set work by their individual subject teachers. Year 9/10 end of year assessments will be taking place during the week commencing 24th June and therefore some students may wish to use the closures to revise for these assessments.

Off-site learning ( Sport at Imber Court, Construction, Discover, Anstee Bridge) will continue on these days unless we inform you otherwise.

The dates of the closures are:

    • Wednesday 8th May School closed for the afternoon Students will leave at 12.15
    • Friday 10th May School closed for the morning. Students should arrive at 11.30
    • Thursday 16th May School closed for the morning Students should arrive between 12.15 and 12.45
    • Monday 3rd June School closed for the morning Students should arrive between 12.15 and 12.45
    • Friday 7th June School closed for the afternoon Students will leave at 12.15

  • OFSTED INSPECTION REPORT

    Published 25/09/23

Following our inspection on 27th and 28th September, we were delighted to receive the final report, which confirms an overall judgement of 'Good' with the following sub-catagories/judgements across our provisions:-

    The quality of education: Good

    Behaviour and attitudes: Outstanding

    Personal development: Good

    Leadership and management: Good

    Sixth-form provision: Good

Please see full report attached below

As a summary, the inspectors reported:-

Students enjoy the community feel of Malden Oaks school. They think staff understand them and their needs very well. They appreciate how staff give them the time, resources and help they need to learn. This enables students to rediscover enjoyment in coming to school even when their previous placements have been unsuccessful.

Leaders are ambitious for all students.  Students achieve well from many varied starting points. Parents and carers are overwhelmingly positive about the way their child’s opportunities have been transformed since joining the school. Students are able to pursue their interests and learn new skills. For example, they explore wildlife in a nearby river and learn how to whittle in willow. Students get the chance to attempt and to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Students behave with courtesy and great consideration for one another around school. They understand and live up to the values which the school makes sure they learn. Lessons are very seldom disrupted. Bullying is rare and tackled effectively when it does occur.
