Ethos & Vision

At Malden Oaks, we're committed to ensuring all our students are offered a wide range of opportunities, regardless of any additional needs they may have. We know most of our students have experienced a sense of rejection from previous educational settings, and we consider it a privilege to offer them a positive experience of education - and to show them they can succeed when supported in the right way.

Our fundamental beliefs centre on the importance of inclusion, and a deep-rooted understanding that behaviour is a form of communication.

Our key priorities

Safeguarding Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students is of paramount importance. All aspects of safeguarding are rigorously monitored, including safer recruitment, staff training, health & safety, risk assessments, provision of a safe space, promotion of healthy relationships, and collaboration with external agencies to safeguard students outside of school.

High Expectations Students are encouraged to aim high, both day to day and in their aspirations for the future. At Malden success goes beyond the classroom and can include students, feeling happier, more confident or simply giving a new experience a go.  All Year 11 students are encouraged to follow a GCSE programme, even where this is approached as a practice run, alongside the option to complete Entry Levels, BTECs and AQA Awards across a range of subjects. Students complete baselines in all subjects on arrival, giving them clear targets for improvement. Small groups and supportive staff help them address gaps in learning and make rapid progress during their time with us.

Engagement & Enrichment We use outdoor education and a range of practical and creative activities to help students take risks, rise to challenges, and learn from mistakes in a safe environment. Some of this happens within the formal curriculum but there are further opportunities delivered through MO Discover.
